Showing Credit Balances When Grants and Purchases Overlap

By the Orvlin team · · 2 min read

Credit balance visibility: what to decide

A customer buys credits while still holding a promotional grant. The total looks healthy, but half expires tomorrow and some cannot be used for the new premium action. A useful balance view exposes those restrictions before work begins.

Track balance types and eligibility separately. Distinguish spendable credits from reserved credits and expired amounts. When the unit is not equivalent to a fixed currency amount, avoid presenting credits as cash without explaining the conversion.

An example with the numbers exposed

An account holds 2,000 promotional credits for basic actions and 3,000 purchased credits valid for all models. A premium job costing 100 credits can draw only from the purchased balance. The displayed 5,000 total alone would be insufficient.

The mistake worth avoiding

Balance histories should not erase grants after expiration. A ledger showing issued, consumed and expired quantities can explain why the available total changed and help support investigate disputes.

A practical checklist

  • Show restrictions and expiry by grant.
  • Label pending reservations.
  • Record a reason for balance adjustments.
  • Reconcile displayed balances against the ledger.

Frequently asked questions

Are all credits interchangeable?
Only if your offer defines them that way. Promotional grants, purchased packs and included allowances may have different product eligibility and lifecycle rules.
